I'm familiar with Neal Stephenson's work enough to know that it's a bit different from the source material in this instance. Still, it's amusing to imagine an extremely racist* author who might have had something like schizoid personality disorder and was mostly a shut-in who would have done himself in if he found out on 23andme that he was like 5% Welsh writing about an extremely ancient sea god corrupting the world with bizarre computer codes such as Perl that closely resemble line noise. *Lovecraft was briefly married to Sonia Greene, a Jewish woman, writer and publisher of Slavic descent. I have no idea how this happened given his apparent belief that anyone besides other Anglo-Saxons are not fully human.
