Re: [PLUG] [OT] SW radio question

Eric,

Kinda of out of a ham's wheelhouse but from a disaster / preparedness point of view I would probably go with something like...

https://www.amazon.com/Kaito-Powered-Emergency-Weather-Flashlight/dp/B01GUMPL3W/ref=sr_1_1?crid=ZV868GII0CJL&keywords=Kaito+500A&qid=1666214418&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIyLjk4IiwicXNhIjoiMi41MSIsInFzcCI6IjAuMDAifQ%3D%3D&s=electronics&sprefix=kaito+500a%2Celectronics%2C103&sr=1-1&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc

...that has multiple ways of being powered.  Obviously this depends on what time of disaster you mean but the thing about this unit is that it can be charged by a manual crank or solar panel (which are both on the unit) in addition to AC or DC.

Have you looked at the Tecsun PL-368? I picked on up a couple of months ago. Pretty neat unit.

I know this is off topic however there are quite a few ham radio folks here
and I need some knowledgeable advice.

I'm planning on buying a portable AM/FM/SW radio and I'm down to these two
Both seem highly rated.
The Tecsun has the ability to play mp3s but I doubt I will need that.
They both charge their batteries internally which is a plus.
The Tecsun seems to have better audio & speakers but for +$100 I don't need it.

Any recommendations, comments, or suggestions?

Background: I'm interested in having a SW radio in case of a disaster. The rest of the time it will
just be playing plain old FM or AM radio.
I'll be doing some research and practice so I know how to find what I'm looking for when I need it.

Thank you,
Eric
