Re: [PLUG] Digital Video Transfer from Legacy "Digital" Camcorder |
Quoting John Karr via plug <plug@lists.phillylinux.org>:
I recommend the easy way out, just send the tapes to a service. It is likely that the value of the time you spend will be greater than the cost of farming it out. I use a service called scancafe, they're always running sales if you sign up to receive emails from them.Previewing the tapes on the camcorder is a good way to reduce the bill by determining if any of the tapes are unplayable or uninteresting. On 12/10/22 19:48, Douglas Lentz via plug wrote:Desktop: Ubuntu 20.04The legacy camcorder: A Sony TRV280 from about 2009. It's labeled "Digital" and has a USB port labeled "DV". The tape format is something called Hi8.The question: How to transfer the Hi8 tapes to MP4 or something like that?Alternate question: Is it just easier and cheaper to use a service? We're talking about 12 tapes total. If the answer to the second question is NO, how would I go about mounting this thing? If I need an intermediate device between the camcorder and the computer, any recommendations? Thanks in advance. Any advice at all is most welcome.___________________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.orgAnnouncements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-- Minds gets scrambled like eggs Get bruised and erased When you live in a brainstorm — Alice Cooper: Hard Hearted Alice
