[PLUG] Digital Video Transfer from Legacy "Digital" Camcorder

Desktop: Ubuntu 20.04
The legacy camcorder: A Sony TRV280 from about 2009. It's labeled  
"Digital" and has a USB port labeled "DV". The tape format is  
something called Hi8.

The question: How to transfer the Hi8 tapes to MP4 or something like that?
Alternate question: Is it just easier and cheaper to use a service?  
We're talking about 12 tapes total.

If the answer to the second question is NO, how would I go about  
mounting this thing? If I need an intermediate device between the  
camcorder and the computer, any recommendations?
