Re: [PLUG] Back Up Medium - Only 1 is 100% Reliable in 20 Years |
All the chatter about backups reminds me of a truism in the computer world. What media do you use to back-up data that is 100% guaranteed to bemachine readable in 20 years, no matter what the type of data you needto save? [The data can be numeric, photographs, videos, etc, etc,]The answer is not floppies, tape, HDDs, SDDs, the cloud, or USB drives. The answer is PAPER.As long as a human being is capable of reading data on a piece of paper,a computer in 2043 will have no trouble reading it either. [ Gutenbergis feeling a little smug right now :) ]

In fact, youreally should consider yourself honored to even be cc'd on thistremendously important communication. The author spent literallyseconds composing this magnificent opus of rational thought anddeductive logic. Unfortunately, it has probably been based oninaccurate data, which really stinks because this eMail would have beentruly awesome! If you have received this eMail in error, werespectfully DEMAND that you immediately delete it and inform the senderthat you have received it in error. Then, just to be safe, you shouldreformat your hard drive, shave your head, renounce all materialpossessions (which are really controlling your life anyway), and join anend-of-times cult somewhere. Once there, you must reconsider all theterrible choices you've made in your life, and promise never to confuse"sex" with "gender" again. Of course, this assumes you have alreadycome to terms with your inherent whiteness, AND that you have learnedthe lyrics to The Internationale. "Arise, wretched of the earth! Arise, convicts of hunger..."(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Internationale) We sincerely hopeyou are able to get your medication stabilized and no longer havethat recurring dream where you're alone in a large crowd, standingnaked in a vat of chocolate Yoo-hoo. BTW, Yoo-hoo really is anunderrated beverage. It’s chocolatey, yet suprisingly refreshing. Pickup a 6-pack today, and tell your friends!___________________________________________________________________________Philadelphia Linux Users Group -- http://www.phillylinux.orgAnnouncements - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug-announceGeneral Discussion -- http://lists.phillylinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
