[PLUG] gdb in emacs with MALLOC_CHECK_

The subject says it all. The following doesn't work:

    M-x gdb
Run gdb (like this): MALLOC_CHECK_=2 gdb graph-reduce

(The error is "Searching for program: no such file or director, MALLOC_CHECK_=2.")

Running the whole emacs process with MALLOC_CHECK_=2 is the modern day
equivalent of a horse hair shirt.

Any suggestions?
