I'm not sure what Rich is referring to as "less compatibility", but
we've had some discussions at past PLUG meetings about the merits of
replacing core Linux utilities, which were written in C, with new Rust
versions. Back in Ubuntu 25.10 Ubuntu began replacing programs in the
coreutilities packages with new versions written in Rust. The new Rust
version of stat(1) had a bug that made it impossible for me to ssh
into my box!
