Hi everyone,

This is a reminder that this coming Tuesday, July 14, IS the second
Tuesday of the month. PLUG North will be meeting in-person at the
SkySwitch offices in Blue Bell at 7 PM. Elizabeth Joseph will be

We're seeing more purpose-built architectures - ARM is everywhere, RISC-V keeps gaining momentum, and even newer options like LoongArch64 are gaining support. The "source awakening," so to speak, isn’t about any one platform, but about a broader shift toward meeting different workloads with different architectural strengths. IBM Z fits into that same landscape, with decades of engineering behind it and its own set of capabilities.

We'll look at modern build and CI/CD workflows for s390x that are available to open source communities. We're also going to try and take a sneak peek at rpmport and dnf5port, young projects aimed at making it easier to use familiar RPM-based tooling in IBM z/OS UNIX System Services (USS), instead of relying on platform-specific packaging systems.
