I didn't take good notes, but I think I had a server where the netplan
changes I was making were being overwritten by the legacy stuff,
presumably by some tool. I had to arrange for the changes to go in a
different file or get rid of the old interface definitions. I'd almost
rather have a straightforward one-time switch, but a THIS WILL BE
OVERWRITTEN warning, preferably with a pointer to the new stuff, in the
legacy files would be helpful.
Oh, and back on topic, I encountered the lack of init.d support on
Debian Unstable recently, in this case with a third party system
management tool. The provided deb file had an init.d script, and some
apparently systemd-related files, but no actual unit file, so it
wouldn't start on boot. I'm expecting the same as soon as we upgrade
one of our Ubuntu servers.
