If you install Ruby from the RPM on SuSE 9.3, I think you don't get the
latest and greatest. In addition, I think that irb does not have readline
linked into it, although I may be wrong. I know that I had to install a
number of xxx-devel packages to get a fuller ruby working, but that may have
been on my SuSE 9.0 workstation.
