Hi everyone,

As you may have heard, Mark is writing a new book on refactoring
Perl. To help him prepare material for his book, he's doing a talk at
a different Perl Mongers group each month this year.

His "Red Flags Tour" rolls into Philadelphia next month. He'll be
speaking at phl.pm on March 21. Note that this is a *Tuesday* and not
our more typical Monday night meeting time.

The reason we're announcing this so early is that Mark is doing a
fresh talk each month based on code submitted by the local groups, and
so he needs time to prepare. He asks that you send him code by
February 28, so have 3 weeks to work on it.

Can someone at ISI make sure the room is available on March 21?
Thanks.

Walt

Subject: Please help me write my new book!

Dear Mongers,

I'm writing a new book, which I hope will be published in 2007. It's
about code review and refactoring in Perl. (For more complete
information, please see http://perl.plover.com/flagbook/ .)

To do this right, I need real examples of real code that other people
wrote. I'll review the code and fix it up, and explain in the book
what I did and why.

I have about half the examples that I need. I hope that the Perl
community can provide the other half.

For rest of the year, I'll be travelling around speaking to Perl
Mongers groups about this. I'd like to give about one talk each month
for the rest of the year.

Each month, I prepare to give a talk for a different PM group. Some
of the group members send me some example code ahead of time. Then I
read over the code, write up a talk about how I think it could be
improved, and come visit the group and give the talk. Afterwards, I
write up a book chapter about the code, incorporating the points that
the PM group raised when I gave the talk.

My talk schedule wouldn't be complete without a visit to my home group
in Philadelphia. Walt has scheduled my talk for Tuesday, 21 March,
2006.
I need your contributions by Tuesday, 28 February.

Full details about what I need are at:

        http://perl.plover.com/flagbook/contribute.html

To contribute, send code to:

        mjd@plover.com

Questions? Send them to:

        mjd@plover.com

Thanks.
