It being Red Hat has nothing to do with it. The Red Hat Users Guide has a chapter on compiling a custom kernel. I found this to give you all the information you need to build a kernel, including some good habits (like backing up your current kernel and modules and including them in LILO). Make sure that you have the kernel-headers and kernel-source packages for the same kernel installed. NOTE: you want to install the kernel-source RPM, *not* SRPM. Michael W.
