Michael Leone: What you are trying to say is that the only way for people to learn something is by keeping everyone together. That way the collective has an intelligence. What about others who would like to learn, but are afraid of the city, don't drive, don't have the time to trek back and forth to the city, etc.. I work in the city, but I have a home life also. I have animals to feed and let out. I have dinner to make. plus the bus ride back into the city is another 4.60 round trip. And then I have to wait almost an hour for the bus. I refuse to drive in because of parking, I am almost to my limit for the year on my car. And you don't have to worry about the most experience people being at one or the other, because as a group we can all help each other. We could create web Pages for the info and share. Is there a limit to what you can't do? I feel as a group there should be nothing that could stop us from helping each other. I think that we should look into a SJ chapter of PLUG, cal it SPLUG?? The SjPhilaLinuxUserGroup. That way PLUG will still be the parent group, and we could all report to PLUG. We have one for KoP, Conshie, and CC. I think in that voting sheet you have your questions should revolve around offsite groups so that we could all decide. Lastly, I was wondering how many people are from the Jersey area who are interested in starting our own chapter of PLUG. We could find a place locally to the SJ members, and we could start next month. Even if we meet somewhere not permanant for now, but just to get introduced to each other. you can email me @ navettese@delinvest.com Thanks, Nick -----Original Message----- From: Michael Leone [mailto:turgon@pil.net] Sent: Tuesday, June 08, 1999 2:03 PM To: plug@lists.nothinbut.net Subject: RE: [Plug] Other considerations against splintering At 12:38 PM 6/8/99 -0400, Vettese, Nick A" <NAVETTESE@delinvest.com> wrote: >topic, and not running scattered. If (for example) half of the brightest, most resourceful and helpful folks are at the offsite location, then neither location is as proficient as they had been when everyone was together in 1 location. If I have a problem in ... configuring firewalls, to pick an example ... and I'm in the CC group, and the person with the most experience and best abilities to share their knowledge doesn't come to my meetings, but is instead at one of the offsite areas, then I haven't received the level of help I could have gotten from the group, nor would this person have been as useful to others as he/she/they might have been. How about the inherent difficulties in sharing info? The most detailed notes on a meeting are no substitute for being there, asking questions, perhaps gaining insight from fellow members. Email/newsgroup postings/web page hilights are a poor second to physical contact/discussion/questions in matters such as this. ---------------------------------------------------------------- "...and if you have any questions about anything, come on up and ask me.
