RE: [Plug] Getting Sound

The card I am trying to use is a ESS1888, found on older Digital celebris
systems.

What kind of sound card are you trying configure again? You may have to
check out some card specific documentation. In the 2.0.x series of kernels
it was /usr/src/linux/drivers/sound/Readme.cards. I know I have tried
unsuccessfully to get my card working Ensoniq SoundscapeVIVO PnP (about 3
years old). My BIOS initialized the PnP part ok, but I found out from
Readme.cards that for my card I had to download a special program called
"ssinit" to initialize the motorola chip that it uses. It requires a
"microcode" file called soundscape.co0 to initialize it. And I don't have
that file, its not on the windows side (there is a program called
ssinit.com, but no microcode file). Anyone else have this sound card ?
