I don't know what version of SuSE you are using but 6.0 doesn't use the
pcmcia-cs/cardmgr system to handle the cards. It appears that pcmcia-cs
doesn't work with the egcs kernels "out of the box" and requires an
unsupported (and possibly dangerous) patch to get it to compile (as of
version 3.0.9.) The people at SuSE decided to go with a pcmcia
controller that was written with egcs kernels in mind. Unfortunately, it
isn't as far advanced as pcmcia-cs and may be your problem.
