[Plug] non gui mailreader

I'd like to use a non gui mailreader (that I could access by
telnetting(sshing)) into a shell account that is capable of monitoring
multiple file simultaneously.  Basically, I want to be notified if new
email comes into any one of my folders.  Suggestions ?  (currently using
pine)
