The documents seem to indicate that it would -- that that is it's function
in life.

I have a 3DFX Voodoo3 video card.  I just reinstalled Debian.  The only X
server which supports my video card (including full OpenGL -- and yes,
quake 3 is pretty) is in a .rpm, and requires a few other .rpms.  I've
made this work before. I haven't gotten there yet.

In other words, I haven't gotten to installing X, so I don't actually
know.
