dmesg shouldn't have any information about PCMCIA cards. The PCMCIA cards are not set up by the kernel but by cardmgr. cardmgr and pcmcia-cs have their own startup scripts for networking and serial devices. These scripts are run when cardmgr detects the card. On my system (RedHat 5.2) the scripts are in the /etc/pcmcia directory.
