I've been using staroffice exclusively for about three months now, and I've had one XWindow lockup, cured by a telnet and kill -9. I've saved and opened files as .doc and .xls readable by M$Office quitenicely (but beware, for those using kmail, there is an incompatibility b/t kmail and Outlook concerning encoding...) My suggestion, go for it. I've also heard from my co-workes that Staroffice on Solaris runs beautifully..
