What exactly do you mean by this? count words until what happens? How does the program know when to count them?

BTW, this isn't really the forum to ask this as it has nothing to do w/ Linux. Please keep any further e-mails regarding this off the list (yes, i realize that i'm posting on the list, but how else could this message be read by everybody?)

i am trying to write a program that counts words and would prefer the user
not having to hit return.
i have tried to use setvbuf but it is not working.  does anyone know how to
use this?
