Well I guess I can start off askin you some questions, such as what way
are you trying to connect to the internet, what program are you trying to
use to dial up?
As what someone had said O'Reilly books are great, the one I suggest
getting right off that bat is either UNIX in a nutshell or LINUX in a
nutshell (These books give you very good command descriptions). They do
have a book Learning RedHat Linux that you can get a preview at here
http://linux.oreilly.com/. Mandrake is a spin off of RedHat with a few
extras and compiled for the pentium.
And another helpful command is man and info
And feel free to ask us questions, we will be glad to help.
