That adapter should split out two individual serial ports, ttya and ttyb.
Your console should appear on ttya. Also, be sure that you *dont* have a
Sun keyboard plugged into the sparcstation when you boot it. This is (at
least with recent systems) how it knows to go to ttya for a terminal console.
