Maddog wrote part of the first edition and had most of what he wrote "thrown out" by his "co-authors." He was not thrilled to be associated with the final product. The "...For Dummies" series is a "format" book, not very much different from "Romance Novels" or "Star Trek and Star Wars Novels." It's like "eating at MacDonalds"... there is nothing wrong with eating at MacDonalds, but it's just, "eating at MacDonalds." I believe that he wrote the second edition entirely on his own, and believes it to be a much more meaningfull work. (I don't know that he believes it to be "good" because of the format constraints.) The Computer Science Book Club routinely has "a new" "Linux Secret's" book every 6 months. Mainly to match the latest CD edition of RedHat. -- www.tru64unix.compaq.com www.tru64.org comp.unix.tru64 T.T.F.N. William H.
