I know nothing about ADSL, but I think you're wrong with what youre
saying..as far as SDSL goes.. there shouldnt be a difference between the 
two, but like I said, I dont know a whole lot about ADSL..

A) they ask you your phone number so they know what address to deliver
service to and if you qualify for DSL

B) it may appear on the same jack because a phone line is 1 pair of copper
wire, and DSL is one pair.. a jack can hold 2 pair.. so you can term both
on the same jack -- its definitely not the same pair, they either have to
deliver a new pair, or use an existing unused one..
