Sorry, I just found this amusing (not to pick on you or anything, Pete). :)
That said, sure, why not? There are zero privacy concerns for people that
choose not to subscribe, I think that many people would get at least some
benefit out it, and (well, maybe I'm a cheap bastard *but*)
free(beer)==good. :)
