Hi Greg / PLUG : Sorry to bother you again, I'm on to new things now, but getting stuck. I managed to upgrade my kernel to 2.2.17-14 using RPMs following a HOWTO. Part of the HOWTO specified installing RPMs for the source & headers. This part I didn't do, since it said "only needed for developers". Well, I run VMware, and need to configure it to run on the new kernel. The VMware script is trying to build itself some modules from the source code, but I don't think I have a correctly installed tree of source. I did find the kernel-source-2.2.17-14 RPM, but there was no such kernel-headers RPM for that version. There is a headers RPM for version 2.2.16. Basically I'm trying to get the source tree sorted out so that I can get VMware up and running again. Previously I untarred the kernel source for 2.2.18 when I was thinking of upgrading the kernel. I'm really not sure what the /usr/src directory is supposed to look like. Currently mine looks like - -rw-rw-r-- 1 root root 18130021 Feb 8 20:44 kernel-source-2.2.17-14.i386.rpm drwxr-xr-x 15 523 523 4096 Feb 9 12:07 linux drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Feb 2 13:38 linux-2.2.14 drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096 Feb 9 03:00 linux-2.2.17 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 17561308 Feb 9 12:06 linux-2.2.17.tar.gz -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 19090206 Feb 2 13:41 linux-2.2.18.tar.gz -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 24644981 Feb 2 13:36 linux-2.4.1.tar.gz drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Jul 22 2000 redhat .....Looks a bit of a mess to me. Would you mind advising on how I should organise this....what to delete / install, etc? -- regs rupert ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug
