Now, maybe there are good reasons you all *like* using sendmail, but
I would submit that Wietse Venema's Postfix (http://www.postfix.net/)
is worlds easier to configure and (on my system) performs better.

And it's not the only drop-in sendmail replacment... if you're
willing to put up with his "interesting" licensing arrangements and
downright demonic file system demands, Dan Bernstein's qmail
(http://cr.yp.to/qmail.html) also performs quite well.

... and there are plenty of others.
