ok, if you can help with this I'll dance at the next PLUG meeting <smile>.
I have access to Chester County Interlink which is a free service for those
who live and/or work in Chester County. I've setup Kppp to connect and I
get a connection <and it holds the connection> BUT, I can not surf. When I
bring up Netscape it says can not find "http://www.ccil.org";. Why do I get
a connection with kppp but can not actually get into my browser and surf???
Anyone ...please. I've been fighting with AT&T Worldnet Service and can not
connect. Now I have this with a connection (it seems) but can not use my
browser. I've tried PAP and CHAP and both of them work as far as a general
connection is concerned but basically I can't do anything.

The error is probably just a mis-config indication. I don't have access
to my box at the moment, but here's a couple thoughts:

I'd guess you've got chap-secrets and possibly username set up
incorrectly. For a test, try a chap-secrets file like this:
* * 'password'
(comments about why this is insecure to /dev/null! Just don't dial any
phone numbers other than AT&T while doing this.)
Your AT&T username, without the '@worldnet.att.net' part, then needs to
be passed to pppd, either in the config file or on the command line.
I'd assume kppp has some option for this, but I haven't used it.
When you get it working, at a minimum you need to change chap-secrets to
something like:
* worldnet.att.net 'password'
You may also need a chap-secrets entry for reverse authentication. An
entry like
* * *
will allow AT&T to authenticate to your machine without a password.
