Java scripting or Java?
Your subject line says: "Java"...
the message says: "Java scripting".  As you 
probably know, the two are not the same.

For Java, I'd recommend "Thinking in Java"
by Bruce Eckel (availabe for FREE (as in beer)
from http://www.bruceeckel.com)

If you mean Java script then someone else will
have to help you out.
