i'm sorry but i didn't follow the entire thread so i don't know if this was
discussed already:
when i setup a RH7.1 machine with either medium or high security i had
trouble getting remote x connection on the workstation. i don't recall
exactly what i did (other than than xhost +) but i think i had to alter some
setting in xinetd or initd or inetd or one of those files that controls
connections to allow the machine to listen on the socket and allow
connections.
also - i had problems with trying to run remote x java applications (even
though i could run other x apps) and it turned out it was becasue of my
color depth - it was set too high - 24 0r 32 when the client was 16.
if any of this sounds familiar i can do some forensic work to figure out the
setting i needed to tweak.
good luck

The frustration is that this feels like a windows system resources thing
that I had gotten rid of as I had gotten rid of windows.
