I don't know what that means since > neither balks at 6.51 I've seen this discussed some, even though I don't use an RPM-based distro. Basically, with the release of RedHat 7.0, RPM v4.0 was released, which uses a different format for .rpm files. Without claiming false authority and sounding like I actually know what I'm talking about WRT RPM, I can point you to archives from another list I'm on. http://www.google.com/search?q=only+packages+with+major+numbers+%3C%3D3+are+supported+by+this+version+site%3Alists.svlug.org In the thread resulting from the first link from that search results page, I'll draw you attention to the message at <http://lists.svlug.org/pipermail/svlug/2001-January/006407.html>. Be forewarned, though, I've heard that converting from RPM v3 to RPM v4 is a rather error-prone process. I'd recommend reading all 5 threads in their entirety before proceeding. Note that one can unpack any given valid .deb file with a combination of "ar -x" and "tar -xzf". ;-P -- Bill Jonas * bill@billjonas.com * http://www.billjonas.com/ "As we enjoy great advantages from the inventions of others, we should be glad of an opportunity to serve others by any invention of ours; and this we should do freely and generously." -- Benjamin Franklin ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug
