RE: [PLUG] Update strategy: RH6.2->RH7.1

6.2 probalby won't recongnize the controller w/out sending kernelk
parameters at boot time. at least this was the case on an older kernel with
my promise controller card. i would put the new card/disk in then install a
fresh RH 7.1 to the new disk. then move your stuff off the old one.

Subject: [PLUG] Update strategy: RH6.2->RH7.1

I have an old machine (i486 on a PCI board, 80 MB ram) now running
RedHat
6.2. I want to add a Maxtor 7200 rpm 40 GB drive to it. In order to
take advantage of the drive?s speed on this old computer, I am adding a
Maxtor ATA controller.

At the same time I want to update it to RedHat 7.1. I am guessing that

the controller is more likely to be supported by RH 7.1, than 6.2.

My question is what sequence I should take to accomplish this? Should I

update to 7.1 first, then add the new hardware, or should I add the
hardware, and then update the OS?

All suggestions will be appreciated.
