 that is what i think is the root of this. the host machine was installed by
uunet, so i don't know what the install options were. and it's a flex
account - which means they set it up, give you root access, and then forget
about you unles you miss a payment:)

they say it's my problem, but i think i will hound them for install-time
options - at least.
