fop is great, but it's still an "early access" sorta release.  There
are some common things that fop doesn't support *yet*, such as tables.

FOP does tables, just fine. But yes, it's certainly still early...


renderx is supposed to be a much better XSL-FO -> PDF converter, except
that it's a commercial tool.  (Not that expensive, but worth the money
I understand).

I've had good experience with both RenderX, as the PDF quality is high since it uses PDFlib (in the commercial version). There is also a "trial" version, which does it's own PDF generation - which is icky...



IBM recently released an XSL-FO converter. Haven't checked into it yet.

should be arriving *REAL SOON NOW*.  :-)

Right!

AbiWord, for example, will allow you to save your word processing files as XSL:FO...
