Yes, that modem should work just fine.

Yep.

For Verizon DSL, month-to-month contracts are
possible.  I do believe _Verizon_ will charge
you some fee if you cancel in less than 90
days, however.

This suggestion has been sent to our sales/marketing
group several times, and it'll be on our "new and
improved" web site to launch later this year.

Verizon ADSL via DCANet gets you 6 static IPs, whereas
Covad gets you five.  The reasons for this, and for
the requirement of tracking MAC addresses, are simply
limitations in the equipment used to terminate the
circuit.  We use Cisco and Redback -- and both require
hard binding of MAC to IP address when PPPoE is not
used.
