RE: [PLUG] Comcast "OPEN IMMEDIATELY" but don't

for what it's worth, you can get rid of their logo on the ie nav thing.
What you have to do is (assuming that you have upgraded -- er, switched to a
higher number -- of ie), uninstall the latest version of ie on your
computer. This will revert back to any old settings that you had, and,
remove all comcast customizations. Then, you are free to return to the
previous version of ie that you were using. I used this process to remove
the version of ie that the UDel disks put on my Win2K machine, so, it works.

Subject: [PLUG] Comcast "OPEN IMMEDIATELY" but don't

Comcast really upset me today. I got a letter that they sent me that
said
"open immediately" and did just that. I followed the directions they
gave
me on my WinME box. I had to unhook my firewall and connect the WinME
box
directly to their modem. I went through the downloads, the acceptance
of
the contracts that disclaimed all responsibility on their part,
installed
the software, rebooted the machine, and was promptly completely
disconnected
from the Internet.

In a call to David at their customer service I was told that the letter
went
out too soon. David stepped me through a long process that involved
resetting parameters and involved his doing some things at Comcast.
Eventually we got my WinME machine back on the net.

After hanging up I reconnected the firewall and found that it would no
longer work with Comcast. A call back to customer service revealed that
they don't support firewalls and refused to help me with this new
problem.

Now my Linux boxes won't get through.

To add insult to injury IE now displays their logo.

Whatever you do, don't do what they tell you.

Does anyone have any ideas for me on how to get the firewall working
again?
(It's a DI-704 gateway from D-Link.)
