Comcast really upset me today. I got a letter that they sent me that said "open immediately" and did just that. I followed the directions they gave me on my WinME box. I had to unhook my firewall and connect the WinME box directly to their modem. I went through the downloads, the acceptance of the contracts that disclaimed all responsibility on their part, installed the software, rebooted the machine, and was promptly completely disconnected from the Internet. In a call to David at their customer service I was told that the letter went out too soon. David stepped me through a long process that involved resetting parameters and involved his doing some things at Comcast. Eventually we got my WinME machine back on the net. After hanging up I reconnected the firewall and found that it would no longer work with Comcast. A call back to customer service revealed that they don't support firewalls and refused to help me with this new problem. Now my Linux boxes won't get through. To add insult to injury IE now displays their logo. Whatever you do, don't do what they tell you. Does anyone have any ideas for me on how to get the firewall working again? (It's a DI-704 gateway from D-Link.)
