One point regarding the switch from @Home to Comcast: I seem to recall the @Home subnet mask being 255.255.255.0 meaning my "neighborhood ethernet" has at most 254 nodes not counting the gateway. Comcast's subnet mask, as set automatically by your DHCP server, is 255.255.248.0. This means you have (8 x 255) - 1 = 2039 nodes on your neighborhood ethernet. Of course, this is ultimately meaningless unless you can somehow monitor real network performance -- I don't see how us users can do that.
