I use gpg. He uses pgp 6.5.2.

Get your friend to switch to a newer email client - like Entourage or Eudora.

When I send an encrypted/signed message to him, it comes as an=20
attachment (mime: application/pgp I believe). His O.E. sees
it as an attachment.asc and he's got to save it to a file and=20
decode it there.

He should be able to just double-click on it to view. Also, I believe that control-clicking (the Mac equivalent of right-click, since there is only a single mouse button) will bring up a menu with an option to decrypt.

When he sends and encrypted/signed message to me, mutt sees it as
inline text and won't decrypt it with gpg. I've got to save it to a
file.... you get the idea.

Have him check his PGP mailing options. Make sure he is using MIME.
