[PLUG] frozen mouse

Hi everyone,
I have a peculiar problem. I am running gnome on redhat 7.2 and a win98 on different boxes. I toggle between them with my KVM switch. If I leave the linux box for an extended period of time (several hours), the mouse stops responding but the keyboard is fine. The mouse still works in windows just not on the linux box. Any suggestions? I tried restarting gpm, but that didn't help. Additionally how does one shutdown gnome when one doesn't have control of the mouse? Anyone know the command off-hand?
Thanks,
-Keith
