I was assuming you didn't have linux all ready. If you make this floppy and you boot from it, you'll have all the tools you need to setup your hd paritions. mkfs, fdisk, cp, etc. You can make a linux partition, copy cd to it, then boot from red hat cd. If you need more detailed help, I'll give it. I'm assuming you know how to mkfs. Please be careful, though. I don't want you to mess up your other (working) partitions. > Will I be able to access the vfat or msdos partition (where the copies > currently are) to copy the files from there to the ext2 or ext3 > partition? Presumeably, I won't be able to access the cdrom from the boot > disk boot up to get them from there. You should be able to access the cdrom. If things get really bad, you need to do some more research on boot floppies. There are all kinds each w/ different support for different hardware. There are also boot rescue cds which have even more tools. You need one w/ the right tools that will let you set things up. I think tom's has msdos fs support, but I'm not sure. Some boot floppies do. So I guess it _is_ easier to find a rescue disk that supports dos (common) rather than your cdrom (really uncommon, I'm guessing).
