Another question to my original - I have always used SCSI on linux just recently I started to use IDE. Can one use a removable drive bay, with a key turn-off, and remove or turn-off the drive while linux is running? I did this with SCSI and it worked fine. The reason for this is backups. You turn on the drive, mount it, do a backup, turn it off. You do not have to remove it though. The IDE backup is on it's own controller, no slaves.
