Does sound like it is muted, doesn't it? Try running aumix (apt-get it if
not installed, of course). Or xmix (for a gui option), or whatever mixer
program you like. Unfortunatly, I don't think there is a simple text file
to read to show you the state of the mixer....
I installed and ran aumix. Nothing is muted? and still no sound?
Hmmm... ummm....
You sure? You cranked it all the way up, and no sound?
What does 'aumix -q' return? How about 'ls -l /dev/dsp'?
Not to offend, but are you sure you have the speaker cable plugged into
the right jack on the card? My SBLive has 4 jacks on the back, only one of
which is audio-out. I would assume you've got this right, but I can't
think of much else...
