George, *To get the CDR/CDRW working you will need to add something to your fstab file, this is a rough example: /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrecorder iso9660 noauto, user 0 0 *Create a directory, /mnt/cdrecorder and make it readable for all users (right click on it in your file manager and choose properties, then change the permissions) *add the line "hdc=ide-scsi" to your lilo.conf file (again, assuming hdc, the secondary master, is your CDR/CDRW) *you'll need to then actually run lilo to have the change take effect. read "man lilo". One thing to note is that if your hard drive uses large block addressing, which I'll bet it does (check the BIOS, see if the hard drive is set to "LBA") then you'll need to use the LBA switch when you run lilo (lilo -L). However, from what you've written, I really suspect that your hardware is an issue and this question should be dealt with first.
