The reason that the PS of this is much smaller than the PDF is the one of the core differences between PS and PDF. PS is a programming language (based on Forth), while PDF is a declarative file format. colorcir.ps takes advantage of the programming aspects of PS by creating a subroutine to generate the colors, and then simply calling that routine multiple times with different parameters. In the PDF, however, each line has to be specified individually.
