Re: [PLUG] FROM ORIGINAL PERENNIAL NEWIE

http://www.emperorlinux.com seems a little high on their prices, but you can call to use a different laptop for lower prices and the use IBM/DELL/Gateway/etc. My favorite is http://www.penguincomputing.com where you can configure you machine online. You can configure such things as: Computer name/hard drive partitions/what services you want enabled and disabled/processor/hard drive/memory/How you want the setup (Server, Workstation, Graphics, etc)/etc. And you can see the price after you update it. Seems worthwhile to check it out.

Have you tried http://www.pogolinux.com, http://www.penguincomputing.com, or
http://www.emperorlinux.com?

They all sell preconfigured PCs with Linux. I am not sure, but I think the
Alien computers also come with Linux.

If you really want Linux pre-installed on a Dell and are willing to buy
a server-class machine:
http://www.dell.com/us/en/biz/topics/linux_linuxhome.htm

Perhaps a business-class HP? (Didn't they merge with Compaq?)

Or if it's okay that it comes with no OS and Linux works well on it:

Note that the modem problem has been solved:
http://newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=02/05/02/1514240&mode=thread&tid=7

If you find a small vendor selling systems preinstalled with Linux, you
can cross-check them at <http://www.resellerratings.com> and see what
other people think of them.

I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point. Help any?
