For dual CPU's, ususally Pentiums are used, at least in the past. Now you can get dual AMD Athlon MP boards. Important note: the newer AMD CPU's have model/performance rating numbers that don't indicate the actual clock speeds. However, up to the Pentuim 2GHz range, the AMD's outperform the Pentiums even though the AMD's are running slower clock speeds. I just ordered an AMD XP 1800+. I think the actual clock speed is below 1.6GHz, but the performance is supposed to be better than a Pentium 1.8GHz. Actually, a review that I saw showed the 1800+ to perform closer to a Pentium running at 2GHz. I don't like the new naming convention, but the performance is nice. I would have believed AMD's claims if I didn't see an independent test.
What type of processor is generally preferred for a dual boot linux box? Intel or AMD? I plan to be using redhat,Suse,Win2K and XP ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug
