[PLUG] pcmcia failure to detect

I have a netgear FA511 pcmcia 32 bit cardbus nic. This nic worked fine
until I went on a trip to ohio. I plugged it ito my mother's cable
modem, and turned on the machine and no link lights, nothing. I figured
screwing with my configs for a few day trip was not worth it and used
hew win box and putty to do what I needed. When I got home it still
wasn't working, so I called netgear tech support and after some back and
forth it was agreed that the card was bad and needed replaced. I got the
replacement today, and it still doesn't work. Now I realize it *could*
be DOA, but I am thinking something else is wrong. I can modprobe the
module "tulip_cb" just fine with ot with out the card in the machine (is
this normal?)

ifconfig eth0 up yeilds: eth0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No
such device

Any tips? Could it be the pcmcia slot itself. I handled the system to
and fro myself, so I don't think it took a bad bump or anything.
