Actually... It wasn't the network config, nor mandrake's fault. I booted off of the Suse 8 live CD to double-check, and it exhibited the same problems. I know it isn't the ethernet card because i used to run debian on this box just fine. The problem turned out to be something to do with the gateway machine. Don't ask me why it can do NAT for 5 other machines fine, but not this one. Only thing I can think is a strange entry in /etc/ethers or something like that. givin the one way ping success, it's something very odd indeed. -- noah silva On Fri, 12 Jul 2002, Paul wrote: > I think Mandrake is still similar to Red Hat, so look at... > > /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices/ifcfg-eth0 > > > Noah Silva wrote: > > > > >Hi, > > > >I installed mandrake on a new PC, and the networking isn't quite right: > >(v8.2 I think) > > > >apple$ ping 192.168.1.1 > >pinging 192.168.1.1... > > > >(nothing comes back) > > > >sparcy$ ping 192.168.1.35 > >pinging 192.168.1.35 > >Reply from 192.168.1.35... > >Reply from 192.168.1.35... > >Reply from 192.168.1.35... > > > > > >etc. > > > >(.1 is a server,sparcy .35 is the new PC, apple). > > > >Any ideas? > > > >Maybe it's firewall ont he new PC or something? > > > >Also, I am used to debian so I tried to find /etc/network/interfaces, > >but to no avail... how do you change the network settings in mandrake > >(other then temp. by ifconfig). > > > > -- noah silva > > > > > >______________________________________________________________________ > >Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org > >Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce > >General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug > > > > > > > > > > > > > ______________________________________________________________________ > Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org > Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce > General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug > > ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug
