hdparm -c1 /dev/hde
Try -c3
hdparm -d1 -X66 /dev/hde
Does -X66 set the drive to ATA66 mode? I've never used that switch.
That's what I would suspect is causing the problem since I've never had
a problem when not using it.
Is there a problem if you manually enter the command after boot?
